When the get-rich-quick scheme, isn’t.

September 23, 2017 by Robert Morrow Leave a Comment

As a Shopify expert we get emails almost every day asking us to look at a website and see why it’s not getting sales. The next usual question is hey, “how can I quickly get Social Media followers, likes, video views, subscribers, and comments” to boost sales? To which our answer is always, “there’s no quick way”. So, before you light up the comment section, let’s break the question down. Such as, what’s the purpose of the likes? Are you just trying to raise capital for your “fill in the blank here” product or service so you need some numbers to impress an prospective investor? Hey look at us, we have 10,000 likes on Facebook. You need to pay attention to us, because 10,000 people can’t be wrong…or can they? Or, are you just someone that likes to throw around numbers to sound like you’re doing something. Something very important, and it must be…look at the numbers!

See, almost all websites that offer purchased followers, e.g., https://www.socialboost.co/ cannot really promise anything, except a number. That’s right, a number of nothing. But please don’t take our word for it, read their site.

All accounts that engage with your social media account are 100% REAL or ACTIVE accounts. We use the best possible method to get you the highest quality followers. We cannot guarantee engagement from these accounts (such as liking your posts).

Ok, so you successfully purchased a large set of numbers pulled from active accounts. Woohoo! But at what cost did you purchase these accounts? See the real issue is these active accounts don’t know you, don’t care about you, don’t know your why, and they surely don’t want to hear from you. If anything you’ve done more damage to your brand than anything. You haven’t earned anything, especially the privilege to talk to them. Why? Because they didn’t even know they were being added to your ledger – and they really don’t want any part of your get-rich-quick scheme.

Instead, try the long approach. Drip it out every day. Show up, and make things happen. Stand for something. Your product or service isn’t for everybody, and that’s ok, do it anyway. Pick a social media platform that works well for you, and start. Keep creating, keep being consistent, keep being accountable, and keep being trustworthy. Drip by drip, you will build relationships (with people that have names), and that’s far more important than a number in a ledger.

50 Ways to Make Your First Sale

Four year later, Mark Macdonald’s Shopify blog entry is still pertinent.

This is a repost of Mark Macdonald’s blog entry over four years ago on Shopify’s site. However, we still find the information quite useful as we get these questions all the time, once we launch a new store.

You’ve got a product. You’ve taken product photos and written product descriptions. You’ve set up your online store, populated it with great content and launched it to the world.

Now what?

Now it’s time to sit back and watch the traffic and sales come flooding in, right?

If only it were that easy.

For many first time ecommerce entrepreneurs, it can be frustrating to work so hard getting your business ready only to to hear crickets when you finally launch.

Reviews that take the cake!

April 5, 2017 by Robert Morrow Leave a Comment

We always like it when our clients say nice things about our work. But when our current clients send us emails on how their customers react to new features or additional functionality we add to their site. They take the cake!

Miss Babs Yarns
After we added a “Compare Colors” section to their website. Here are a few comments:

“FABULOUS~ Having the “compare” option is an outstanding addition to the website. In the past week I’ve attempted to navigate other online yarn sites – unsuccessfully. In part because they are frequently difficult to read, yarns are not well described for content or use nor suggestions for projects readily available. Or when I asked questions a response was not received. Your website has set a high standard. The addition of compare colors sets the bar even higher.

Thank you for considering the needs of the online yarn shopper and making the process easier.”

“I use to put them in my shopping cart to see how the colors look next to each other, but I’d have to delete and go find things again. This is much easier. :)”

“Very cool! I too used to use the cart to compare colors. This is much nicer and worked just great with my iPad. I like that I can add all or just by item to the cart.”

“I love this feature! I also was one who would put things in my cart to see them together, and delete and re-add to get them in the right order if that was important for me to see! This is working great on my Mac with Safari, the drag and drop is awesome. Thank you for adding this!!!”

We’ve have been asked repeatedly about why we choose Shopify as our dedicated e-commerce platform. I believe this would qualify as a big one. With a very extensive background in marketing, we understand what it means to ask questions, listen, and learn. Also, in our quest to deliver the very best service and solutions to our clients, we have learned a lot along the way, both by our clients and all the great resources provided by Shopify.

In our opinion, Shopify does the best job of equipping you with the very best tools to organize, categorize and sell your products.

Here is a great bookmark, hurry…don’t walk to TGIM from Shopify.

Tiny is in fashion…again.

Well, it looks like tiny is officially here. Tiny houses, tiny cars…tiny, tiny, tiny.

Which is why I wanted to talk to you about this app that we have happily used long before tiny was mainstream. When creating Shopify ecommerce websites, speed is king, and saving space without compromising quality is queen.

Fast forward several years, downloads speeds have increased and so has the desire for images (especially the rise in PNG files). And for anybody working with PNG files you know the compression, is not the greatest…to say the least. That’s where this little app really shines. Using a technique they call “quantization”. They reduce the number of colors, and strip all unnecessary metadata out of the image. What is left, is a greatly reduced file size image, without sacrificing any quality or detail. In my book, that is a win, win. And, I dare you to try to distinguish the difference between the two.

Check it out for yourself. It’s good to see such a tiny app be so big.
